About
Welcome to Scheepskameel, a culinary gem nestled in the vibrant harbor of Amsterdam. Located at Gebouw 024A, Kattenburgerstraat 5, this restaurant offers more than just food; it delivers an experience defined by its exceptional service and delectable dishes.
Scheepskameel brings the best of Dutch cuisine to the fore, showcasing local products and fresh seasonal ingredients. Guests have praised the restaurant for its well-executed meals, particularly the entrecôte, which takes center stage on the menu. The culinary team demonstrates mastery in preparation, with each dish presented with care and precision.
The experience does not end with the food. Patrons have noted the professionalism of the staff, who strike a perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion. The ambiance is gentle and inviting, allowing guests to enjoy their meals without feeling rushed. It’s a place where people can savor the moment, as reflected in the reviews that highlight the memorable atmosphere.
One standout mention is the selection of German wines, available at friendly prices—between 6 to 9 euros per glass. This unique offering complements the menu beautifully, much like peanut butter and jelly for a classic pairing, enhancing the overall dining experience.
What truly sets Scheepskameel apart is its commitment to elevating traditional Dutch cuisine. An example of this is the delightful surprise tasting menu crafted by the chef, which has changed many diners' perceptions of Dutch food. Fresh lobster tail served with a creamy sauce and an impressive 800g grilled seabass highlight the restaurant’s dedication to quality and flavor. Even the desserts, such as the exquisite tarteletter with raspberry, leave a lasting impression.
In summary, Scheepskameel stands as a beacon for those looking to explore Dutch gastronomy elevated to new heights. Whether it’s a special occasion or an everyday dinner, the restaurant promises a pleasant and fulfilling experience. It is a place I wholeheartedly recommend, not just for the food, but for the warmth and care that envelops every visit.
“ Outstanding experience at the great harbor in Amsterdam. Have to compliment on their professional personnel who paid much attention to all guests but weren’t intrusive. We had peppers, lobster tail and big grilled seabass. The lobster was fresh and delicious, with nice creamy sauce. Seabass was quite big (800g) but kept its delicious taste and wasn’t overloaded with spices or anything. Were surprised by their selection of wines and friendly prices (6-9 euro per glass). They serve German wines only, so pay attention if you like it. Finished with a small tarteletter with raspberry. Great atmosphere. ”
“ Overall it was a nice dinner The entrecôte was really the star, very well executed We also enjoyed the desserts and the wine For sure a nice place to try out one time, won’t repeat probably but the staff was very nice and the service was good ”
“ Perfect service oriented people elevate your experience. The food was top notch and the proposed wine fitted the food like peanut butter and jelly. The atmosphere and surroundings are mesmerising. We had a great evening. Did you know you can buy the wines they serve in the restaurant? ”
“ Nice place, food not quite what I was expecting. Worth a visit. ”
“ I loved this restaurant. Local products, Dutch cuisine elevated and fresh seasonal dishes. We didn’t order anything specifically and the chef made for us the menu. I enjoyed a lot being surprised and this place has changed my idea of Dutch food, when made with love it’s definitely really good! I will definitely come back and I have already recommended this restaurant to family and friends. ”
“ A trendy restaurant with some creative ideas and good execution. It is casual and cozy but also enough of a fine dining destination to make you want to return for a new experience the next time. The German wines are excellent and pair well with the light dishes. Staff is young and friendly though they rotate around in a rather amusing chaos that reminds me of a casual izakaya in Tokyo. ”
“ Fantastic food, drinks, and atmosphere! The staff were incredibly kind and obliging; they had excellent knowledge of wines that they would recommend for dishes. They had a truly excellent selection of wines from Northern Europe. Everything we ate was delicious, but the highlight of the meal was the lamb shoulder. We were so full we could barely move, but the espresso-vodka sorbet gave us the boost we needed to get home! We spent roughly €150 on our meal, which included a few drinks each and multiple courses. I think this was very fair pricing for the quality. ”
“ Edit 2: This place just keeps getting better and better. Tuesday evening and a full house . Once more a fantastic dinner Edit: Updated from 4 to 5 stars.Second time we went here was significantly better (and more fun) Old: Was expecting better for this price level. Don't get me wrong the food tasted really good all the German wines were excellent. I was just missing the sizzle and creativity in the dishes. It wasn't in the taste and not in the products used, just think that at other restaurants in Amsterdam for the same price you can expect to get more creativity and flair in the presentation and overall service. In a sense the overall German theme was reflected in the dishes and the service as it felt reserved and conservative. ”
